The results of the elections to the 18th Lok Sabha show that people of India asserted their prowess to defend the Constitution and the secular democratic character of the republic. The vast electorate brought down the earlier strength of the ruling BJP from 303 to 240. The BJP is now 32 seats short of a majority on its own. However, its NDA allies added 52 seats to the BJP tally. Thus, the NDA got 292 seats, which is 20 more than the required majority. Now the Modi-3.0 government as NDA coalition .....

The Sanatan Dharma Debate

A bitter controversy has erupted on the statement by a DMK leader against ‘Sanatan Dharma’. He was addressing a conference of progressive writers of Tamil Nadu who spread scientific temper against superstitions, irrational practices, rituals, caste-structure, untouchability and inhuman social injustice in the name of ‘Sanatan Dharma’. 

What is ‘Sanatan Dharma’? 
This term was first used by the author of the Manusmriti to defend upper caste Hindu males in the following verses:

Present Economic Crisis in India

Shrinking space for the Left, Liberal and Socialists

Some friends and well-wishers of the Left with ‘Marxist Conscience’ now-a-days bitterly criticise the functioning of the communist Parties in general and the CPI(M) in particular and hold the undemocratic functioning of the Party responsible for the ‘marginalisation’ of the Left in India. A Communist Party functions on the fundamental norms of organisational structure’ known as ‘democratic centralism’ and ‘inner party democracy’. Like all the middle class well-wishers with ‘Marxist conscience’, we too feel concerned over the shrinking space for the Communists in Indian political arena.

Post-Truth in Indian Society

This is an age where truth does not prevail. People trust falsehood, false promises that are never kept. Political leaders brazenly tell lies, 'eating sugar' but say, 'no papa'. The leadership that is ruling India resorts to falsehood, serving the interests of the foreign and Indian capitalists and international finance capital, but declare that they are doing all for the poor. They all the time make new promises, The PM declared on November 8, 2016 that currency notes of 500 and 1000 denomination would be illegal but could be exchanged at the Banks and post offices till the end of December 2016. This proved to be a lie. After a short span of time, the exchange was denied and old notes were allowed to be deposited in the Bank accounts. That order was also repealed, but had to undo it under pressure. The prime minister told the public that

Greek Tragedy knocking at India’s door

Most of our people including even the economists and academics would laugh at the warning I am blowing here that India is heading towards a Greek type economic collapse by the year 2018. Even Raghu Ram Rajan, the RBI governor once had expressed his view without mincing words that the crisis was worse than it was in the 1930s and cautioned about the impending negative economic pace in India notwithstanding the rosy picture drawn every day by our PM and FM who never shirk in their duty of inventing new ‘Jumla’ every now and then. Some body (perhaps Nitish Babu) had rechristened the BJP as ‘Bhartiya Jumla Party’ commenting on what the BJP president termed the promise of crediting Rs.15 lakh by Narendra Modi to the account of every Indian as a ‘jumla’. जाति उन्मूलन परियोजना क्या हो

भारत भूमि पर जाति नामक संस्था की जड़ें इतनी गहरी हैं, कि जाति के खात्मे के लिए तमाम संतों, सूफियों, समाज सुधारकों, कवियों, लेखकों के उपदेशों और सामाजिक आंदोलनों के बावजूद ये जड़ें उखड़ने के बजाय और अधिक मज़बूत होती गयी हैं। दर असल, आदिम समाज के बाद जब ‘निजी संपत्ति’ का अधिकार हासिल करके मानव समाज वर्गविभाजित हो गया तो नाबराबरी के दौर में प्रविष्ट हुआ, फिर उस नाबराबरी को बनाये रखने के लिए तरह तरह की दार्शनिक व धार्मिक व्यवस्थाएं संपत्तिशाली वर्गों ने ईजाद कीं। इन्हें मैं एक नाम से चिह्नित करता रहा हूं, वह है : ‘क्लासीकल विचारधारा’।

‘Pratirodh’ (Resistance) at New Delhi

New Delhi Nov.2 : Yesterday it was the birth anniversary of rationalist Narendra Dabholkar, who was murdered in Pune in August 2013. So writers, artists and intellectuals from all sides were coming to Mavalankar Hall to join the ‘Pratirodh’ programme. At  2.00 p.m. a huge presence of writers, artists, scientists, historians and cultural activists was witnessed at the  Hall here who came to express their solidarity with the protest movement that erupted after the brutal murder of eminent Kannada writer, prof. M. M. Kalburgi and when, as an expression of anger, Uday Prakash, an eminent Hindi writer returned his Sahitya Akademi award. And then, Nayantara Sehgal too returned her award.             This is an open letter from a common citizen of India. Your BJP is past master in coining attractive slogans to hoodwink people that you call ‘Janata Janardan’. The ground reality is that the one year of your rule has done nothing to alleviate poverty or for ‘sab ka vikas’. Even your own MP from Balia has said that not even one kilometre road has been built in one year. Almost all the MPs including Rajnath Singh and MLAs of your Party in the BJP ruled states and UP have failed to utilise the funds allocation as shown on the Rajya Sabha TV programme. We all know that no foundation of even one new smart city has been laid in any part of our country, only castles in the air. Do you think that you will create 300 smart cities in one go just by slogans and rhetoric? Not 300 smart cities, can you build even 3 smart cities

अरुण जेटली के बजट की असलियत

मेरा एक विद्यार्थी दलित परिवार से है, सिविल सर्विस की तैयारी में जुटा है, मेरे पास पढ़ाई में मदद के लिए आता रहता है। इस साल के बजट पर मेरी राय जानने के मकसद से वह आया। वह बोला, ‘सर अरुण जेटली साहब ने इस बजट में मध्यवर्ग पर टैक्स का बोझ नहीं डाला, यह तो अच्छा किया, और भी काफी योजनाओं पर पैसा ख़र्च करने का प्रावधान भी रखा, इसलिए कुल मिला कर यह बजट अच्छा ही कहा जायेगा, आपकी क्या राय है, इससे भारत का विकास सुनिश्चित हो सकता है?.

हमारे पड़ोस में एक कालेज की प्राध्यापिका जी रहती हैं जो पता नहीं क्यों हमारे महान देश के महान पीएम से बहुत नाराज़ रहती हैं। उन्होंने नारीविमर्श पर बहुत कुछ पढ़ रखा है, शायद इसीलिए वे हर समय हमारे पीएम में कुछ न कुछ नुख्स ढूंढ़ती रहती हैं। वे कहती हैं कि ‘हमारे पीएम ने सात फेरे ले कर जिस महिला से ब्याह रचाया, अग्निदेवता को साक्षी मान कर जो जो वायदे किये, वे कतई नहीं निभाये। यह कैसी उनकी भारतीय संस्कृति है?’ मुझे लगता है शायद
